The First Element of Coaching Magic: I Am Magic!

There’s a moment in every great coaching session that can’t quite be explained. Something shifts. A breakthrough lands. A truth rises up that was there all along, just waiting to be noticed.
What do we call that? Magic.
And that’s exactly where Coaching Magic begins - with the very first (and most foundational) element: I Am Magic.
This isn’t just a nice idea or a self-esteem booster (although it certainly can be both!). It’s a truth that lives deep inside the practice of great coaching and inside of you. When we say “I am magic,” it’s not my ego talking. It’s a recognition of the intuitive, pattern-recognizing, soul-sensing nature of what we do.
In fact, “I am magic” is the root system of all the other elements in Coaching Magic. It’s the hum beneath the surface. The glimmer behind the insight. The current that runs through our most transformational moments with clients.
Magic vs. Confidence
At first, this might sound like confidence or maybe even a belief in your own skills. But it’s more than that.
It’s the kind of knowing that doesn’t come from a book. It comes from pattern recognition that lives outside of our conscious awareness—our intuition. It’s the inner sense that picks up on what’s unsaid. It’s the way you can feel when the question is ready to be asked or the silence is ready to stretch. It’s the moment when the body knows before the mind catches up.
And if you’ve ever been in a truly powerful coaching session, you know what this feels like. There’s a rhythm. A flow. A moment when you can sense what’s next, even if you can’t quite explain it.
The Science That Feels Like Mystery
One of my favorite quotes is from Arthur C. Clarke:
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
What a delightful truth. We don’t have to explain it all. We don’t have to pick it apart to prove it’s real. Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is trust it.
To say I am magic is to say: “There’s something moving through me that I may not fully understand, and I’m okay with that.”
A Coach’s Sacred Role
As coaches, we’re not just observing magic, we’re inviting it. When we recognize the magic in ourselves, we’re more likely to see it in others. And this is where the real transformation begins.
Our clients are magic, too. They have knowing. They have inner wisdom. They have sparks and glimmers that might just need someone to name them out loud.
The most masterful coaches don’t create magic for others—they simply see it, encourage it, and weave it into something new. That’s when everyone unfolds into their best selves. And that’s why I am magic isn’t just a personal mantra. It’s a collective invitation.
So, Coach…
Next time you step into a session, take a breath.Feel into that quiet hum beneath the surface.Let yourself remember:
✨ You are magic.
✨ They are magic.
✨ And that means the coaching itself can be magic, too.
